If you think about it, sales prospecting is a whole lot like dating. With each conversation that you have with your prospect (or each “date” that you go on), you try to woo them. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to woo them in the right way.
Would you list off all of your wonderful attributes one by one to your date? Let’s hope not. When you are on a date, you try to connect with and relate to the other person. You try to show them your value so that they will want to continue dating you.
It works the same with sales prospecting. In order to be successful, you shouldn’t tell the other person how great you are or how many awards your company has won. You must try to really connect with your prospect. Ultimately, you need to provide them with value.
