5 Ways to Make Your Facebook Page Better Right Now

5 fingers

We talk a lot on this blog about social media marketing strategies and such. About planning content and developing a direction for your page. Basically, we talk about things that will pay off in the long run.

But sometimes — OK, nearly always — we humans like instant gratification. And sometimes, it’s hard to look down the road for results when all we want is something good to happen right now.

Well, while you put the balls in motion to make these good things happen later, here are five things you can do to make your brand’s page better right now.

1. You’re so vain

Normally we don’t encourage you to be vain on your Facebook page, but here’s your big chance — claim your vanity URL. For starters, it’s easier for people to share. Have you ever tried typing in one of those crazy URLs? If you have, I bet you missed one letter or symbol somewhere and got that annoying Page Not Found message. By claiming your personalized URL, you can avoid all that.

Plus, it’ll make your page look more professional and make it more searchable on Facebook.

2. Tell me about yourself

That pesky About section you so often see empty on entirely too many brand pages? Fill that thing out, for goodness sake. Take a few minutes and write a couple sentences about your business and what it does.

And don’t forget to put the URL to your business’ website. And do yourself a favor, put it high in the About section box so it appears on the main page instead of getting buried under See More.

3. Cover it up

Change your cover photo. This might be the hardest and easiest change to make. Coming up with a cover photo idea is often a source of consternation for people. In many instances, people make it harder than it needs to be.

Choose a photo that grabs people’s attention at first glance and tells the story of your company at second glance. If you put some thought into it, I’m sure you’ll come up with something amazing … or at least better than what you have there now.

4. Change of face

Another quick and noticeable change to your page is to update your profile picture. If you’ve had the same profile picture for ages, give your page a new look and maybe catch someone’s attention in the news feed.

Be sure to put some thought into what you choose. Remember, this is the image that fans will see in their newsfeed and gives you your best chance to pull them into your page.

5. Let’s be exclusive

Since the other items are cosmetic changes, I felt it was important to include a tip of some substance. While it may also be part of a longer-term strategy, take a moment and post some exclusive content to your page now. It doesn’t have to be involved or complicated. It can be as simple as a last-minute, Facebook exclusive deal that fans can claim only for the rest of the day.

If nothing else, getting someone to come into your business because of your Facebook page today will be a nice boost as you continue on with your overall social media strategy for tomorrow. It surely wouldn’t hurt.
